The Giver

The students will do a novel study of The Giver by Lois Lowery. They will be asked to create a graphic novel version of the story. We will have mini art lessons on drawing characatures and the use of color.

The students will have applied comprehension skills and note taking in the form of a story board. They will use the color wheel as well as different mediums of drawing, ie oil pastels, water colors, and colored pencils.

We will use bare books, crayons, colored pencils, water colors, and oil pastels. We will have several examples of graphic novels to use as references as well as drawing books to assist the students will basic art skills.

Other Information

Graphic novels help motivate reluctant and struggling readers. Incorporating art as an assessment tool allows for the visual learners to best express themselves.
