The Near East Meets Harlem

My students are reading one of the oldest epics in history, The Epic of Gilgamesh. In an effort to bring this 2000 year old text to life, I would like to bring them to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to view the Near East exhibit to see the art and architecture of the time period. I would like to witness the reliefs, the statues, the pottery and jewelry that this culture produced and used as a way to show them how much they have in common with these people of the past.

Students will learn epic terminology, explore the theme of immortality and the cycle of life as well as friendship; they will learn the art and architecture utilized in Mesopotamian culture.

140 Notepads and pens for each students 25 copies of The Epic of Gilgamesh.

Other Information

Students in the past have loved reading this book and still come back to talk about it. I would really like to upgrade the experience by adding a visual element and getting students to learn from an institution outside the classroom. Thank you in advance for your support.
